Question of the day:

When God looks at you, how much of himself does He see in you?

Another "Coincidence"? Of course not!

We have been praying for the last year + that God would find a safe home for us in Guatemala that we could move into in January when we arrive. Bob Hastings and his family have been living in Guatemala for over four years now in a home that's in a safe neighborhood just down the street from The Christian Academy of Guatemala (where our 3 oldest are already enrolled). Last summer Bob and his wife Robin bought a condominium nearby and planned to move in when it was completed in February of this year. The condo was delayed in construction by a month and I joked that if only it could be delayed 10 more months than we could rent their house! Bob laughed, ha ha. Well, month after month it was delayed and month after month I said gee only " x " more months! Well, here we are in mid-October and Bob just received his closing date and I have worked out a contract with his landlord and we will be moving into their house January 1 ! This is an amazing blessing as we know this house, are very comfortable there and our kids will be safe behind the walls of this safe neighborhood. There are several other missionary families living there, so Mary will have company during the day and our children will have other kids to play with! Why do we ever worry, when we have a provider like we do? Thank you for those who have been praying for this along with us!

¡Feliz CumpleaƱos Jordan! Happy Birthday!

We celebrated Jordan's 10th birthday yesterday with 14 of his friends from the neighborhood and school. He had a "spy birthday" complete with fingerprinting, clue-detection and interrogations. Everyone had a great time and we were thrilled to celebrate our oldest son. Here are some photos from the party:

Travel Plans

I will be travelling this month to Guatemala for a few days in order to help Bob Hastings with a number of changes taking place with our accounting process and to be presented to our office.

Our central office is located in a challenging zone of Guatemala City and oversees the entire staff of hundreds of Guatemalan employees who dedicate themselves every day to the nearly 8,000 children in our programs throughout Guatemala. Our office is attached to one of our largest schools...which will be a great reminder for me each day of why I am there.

Please pray that my time is fruitful and that Mary and the kids have a peaceful and safe few days here in Costa Rica.

Guatemala Poverty Rate

I was very disturbed to see the following article this morning:

A United Nations report says rising food prices have pushed half a million Guatemalans into poverty.
A report from the U.N's World Food Program says another half of million of Guatemala's poor are now living in extreme poverty due to increased prices for the country's basic food staples.
Guatemalan have seen corn, rice and bean prices rise by more than 40 percent in the last two years.
The report's author Nicholas Virzi of Rafael Landivar University in Guatemala City said another 200,000 Guatemalans who are not living under the poverty line are also struggling to purchase food.
More than half of Guatemala's 12 million people live on less than US$2 a day.

Please pray for these and the many others all over the globe who are struggling to put food on the table.
